Eid Holidays from Dubai: How to Plan Short Breaks Around Eid in 2027

Expected 2027 Eid dates, why fares jump 30 to 60 percent, the best four to six day trips from the UAE, booking windows, group allocations, alternate airports and visa timing before embassies close.

In shortEid moves about 11 days earlier each year and is confirmed by moon sighting. Eid al Fitr 2027 is expected around 9 or 10 March and Eid al Adha around 16 or 17 May, so treat these as estimates. Fares rise 30 to 60 percent, so book flights four to six months ahead, choose trips under six hours such as Baku, Tbilisi, Cairo or Istanbul, and apply for visas a month early.
In this guide

I run our group departures and corporate travel, which means I spend every Eid on the phone, usually with people who decided to travel ten days before the holiday. Eid is the best and worst time to travel from the UAE: the best because a few public holidays plus the Saturday and Sunday weekend can give you five or six days off, and the worst because the rest of the country has the same idea. This is how I plan Eid trips for families, friend groups and companies, and how you can do the same.

When Eid falls in 2027, and why the dates move

The Islamic calendar is lunar, about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so each Eid arrives roughly 11 days earlier than the year before. The exact date is confirmed by moon sighting, usually only a day or two in advance, and UAE public holiday dates are announced close to the time.

For 2026, Eid al Fitr fell around 20 March and Eid al Adha around 27 May. Moving roughly 11 days earlier, for 2027 we expect:

  • Eid al Fitr: expected around 9 or 10 March 2027.
  • Eid al Adha: expected around 16 or 17 May 2027, with the Day of Arafat the day before.

These are estimates. Plan around a window of plus or minus one day, and buy flexible tickets or travel insurance that covers a change of dates. In practice, I build Eid trips so the outbound flight is the evening after the last confirmed working day, and the return lands in time for work even if the holiday ends a day early.

Do not forget the other long weekends: Islamic New Year, the Prophet's Birthday, National Day in early December and New Year's Day. Combined with a Saturday and Sunday, any of them can become a four-day break.

Why Eid prices jump 30 to 60 percent

Simple supply and demand, multiplied. Hundreds of thousands of UAE residents want to leave on the same night, and airlines and hotels know it. On popular routes, economy fares from Dubai on the first evening of Eid can be 30 to 60 percent above a normal week, and hotel rates in nearby cities rise too, because Eid is a holiday across the region and Gulf travellers fill Baku, Tbilisi and Istanbul at the same time.

Prices also rise in stages. Airlines release fares in buckets, and the cheap buckets on Eid dates sell out months ahead. The jump from AED 1,400 to AED 2,600 return can happen within a week once the date is announced.

Where to go for four to six days

With a short holiday, the flight time decides everything. Anything over six hours eats too much of a four-day break.

Baku is my first choice for a short Eid: under three hours, easy for many UAE residents to visit (requirements vary by nationality), halal food everywhere and a mountain day in Gabala. Our Baku and Gabala escape is four nights, the perfect fit. Tbilisi is similar, with more food and wine culture and great day trips.

Istanbul needs at least five nights to feel worth it; with six, add Cappadocia as in our Istanbul and Cappadocia holiday. Bangkok is the best value long-haul option for food, shopping and spas, and our Bangkok short break uses a late-night outbound so you gain a full day. Cairo is under four hours away for the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum; for the full Cairo and Nile cruise, add two days of leave. The Maldives is the splurge, but even four nights there feels like a proper holiday.

Season matters as much as distance. A March Eid al Fitr suits Cairo perfectly at around 25°C, while Baku and Tbilisi are still cool at 10 to 15°C, so pack coats. By a mid-May Eid al Adha, Istanbul, Tbilisi and Baku are at their best, in the low to mid twenties, while Cairo climbs past 33°C and Bangkok is hot and humid with the first rains. For a March Eid in the Caucasus, choose city breaks over mountain days, as some high roads are still closed by snow.

Booking windows that actually work

  • Four to six months ahead for flights. For a March 2027 Eid al Fitr, that means booking in October or November 2026.
  • Three months ahead for hotels in Baku, Tbilisi and Istanbul, where Gulf demand fills the best properties.
  • Six months or more for the Maldives at Eid, especially water villas.
  • Buy refundable or changeable fares where the difference is small, because the moon sighting may shift your dates.

How group departures and allocations help

This is the part most people do not know about. Agencies like ours buy seat allocations and hotel room blocks for Eid months in advance, at prices set before demand peaks. When a public flight shows sold out or AED 3,000, we may still have seats in our block at the earlier price.

We also run escorted group departures for Eid to places like Baku, Georgia and Türkiye, with a tour leader, coach transfers and pre-booked restaurants. For friend groups of eight or more, and for companies taking teams away, we can build a private departure with our own block. If you are organising an Eid trip for staff or clients, our corporate travel team handles the rooming lists, invoices and approvals. Allocations are usually released back to airlines 21 to 30 days before departure, so ask early.

What to do if flights are full

When DXB flights are full or overpriced, look at the other airports. The UAE has four realistic options within 90 minutes of most of Dubai:

  • Dubai World Central (DWC) in Jebel Ali, around 45 minutes from Dubai Marina.
  • Sharjah, 20 to 40 minutes from Deira and Al Nahda, with many direct routes to the Caucasus, Egypt and Asia.
  • Abu Dhabi, about 75 minutes from central Dubai, often with different fare patterns and spare seats.

Mixing airports, for example out of Sharjah and back into DXB, can save AED 500 to 900 per person at Eid. Factor in a taxi of AED 100 to 250 each way. Also try the less obvious days: leaving on the first morning of Eid rather than the night before is often much cheaper, and families who stay for Eid prayers usually prefer it anyway.

Visa timing before the holidays

Visa delays are the most common way Eid trips fall apart. Before Eid, visa centres and embassies in the UAE are busy, and during the holiday many close for three to five days, including those of countries that celebrate Eid themselves. Processing in the destination country can stop too.

  • Apply at least four weeks before departure for e-visas and six to eight weeks for visas needing an appointment.
  • Check your passport has six months of validity and your UAE residence visa is valid beyond your return.
  • If your residence visa is being renewed, do not travel until it is stamped and your Emirates ID is ready.

As an example for UAE residents, requirements for Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Egypt and Thailand all differ by nationality. Rules change, so our visa team confirms the current requirements before you apply.

Planning your Eid trip with us

If you want to travel at Eid al Fitr or Eid al Adha 2027, start now. Choose from the short-haul packages above, check our current deals for early Eid prices from our allocations, or tell us your group size and dates. I will hold seats, confirm visas and build in a buffer for the moon sighting, so the only thing you need to decide is where to have your Eid breakfast.

Frequently asked questions

When is Eid in 2027?
Eid al Fitr 2027 is expected around 9 or 10 March and Eid al Adha around 16 or 17 May. These are estimates: the dates are confirmed by moon sighting shortly before, and UAE public holiday dates are announced close to the time, so plan with a one-day buffer.
Why are flights so expensive at Eid?
Huge numbers of UAE residents travel on the same nights, and Eid is a holiday across the region, so Gulf travellers fill nearby cities at once. Cheap fare buckets sell out months ahead, leaving fares 30 to 60 percent above a normal week.
Where can I go from Dubai for a four-day Eid break?
Choose a flight under four hours: Baku, Tbilisi and Cairo are the best fits, and the Maldives if budget allows. Istanbul and Bangkok work better with five or six nights. Halal food is easy to find in all of them.
What can I do if Eid flights from DXB are sold out?
Check Dubai World Central, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, or mix airports for outbound and return. Ask an agency about group allocations, which are seat blocks bought months earlier. Flying on the first morning of Eid instead of the night before is often cheaper too.
How early should I apply for a visa before Eid?
At least four weeks ahead for e-visas and six to eight weeks for appointment-based visas. Embassies and visa centres often close for three to five days during Eid. Requirements vary by nationality and change, so we confirm current rules before you apply.

Prices and visa notes in our guides are examples at the time of writing. The live price is shown on each holiday page and visa requirements are confirmed before you apply.
