The Maldives is the honeymoon most couples in the UAE picture first, and it is only four and a half hours from Dubai, which means you can land at Malé late morning and be in the lagoon by mid-afternoon. The real decisions are the resort, the atoll and how you get there, and those are where an experienced consultant earns their keep. This package uses an overwater villa for all five nights, because swapping from a beach villa halfway through costs you an afternoon of packing, and because waking up above the water is the point.
We include the seaplane rather than the domestic flight and speedboat combination, so the transfer becomes part of the holiday: 35 to 45 minutes low over the atolls, landing at the resort's floating platform. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so we book flights that land in Malé before about 2pm. If yours arrives later, we arrange a night in a Hulhumalé hotel at no extra cost and you fly out the next morning.
All three resorts have their own house reefs, which matters more than the brochure suggests: you can snorkel from the villa steps with reef sharks, turtles and parrotfish without booking a boat. Half board covers breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant, and we have added the moments couples remember: a private sandbank picnic with a crew who leave you alone for two hours, a sunset dolphin cruise, and a candlelit dinner on the beach. Upgrade to full board or all-inclusive if you would rather not sign a bill, which in the Maldives adds up quickly; lunch for two at a resort is often AED 400 or more.
The dry season from December to April is the safest bet for weather. May to November brings the southwest monsoon: warm, quieter, better value and with short tropical showers, plus manta and whale shark season in some atolls. Joanna Dela Cruz, who looks after our honeymoon couples, recommends telling every resort you are on honeymoon; most add a bottle of sparkling juice, a cake and flower petals on the bed.

Day by day
Day 1Fly to Malé and seaplane to your resort
The direct flight from Dubai takes about four and a half hours, landing in Malé before lunch. A resort representative meets you in arrivals and walks you to the seaplane lounge for a cold towel and juice. The seaplane flight takes 35 to 45 minutes over the atolls, so ask for the seat behind the pilots for the best views. On arrival you are taken by buggy to your overwater villa. Dinner tonight in the main restaurant. Overnight at the resort.
Day 2House reef and a slow day on the lagoon
After a late breakfast, collect snorkels and fins from the dive centre and swim the house reef, best at mid-morning high tide when visibility is greatest. Turtles, blacktip reef sharks and huge schools of fish are common within 50 metres of the villas. Spend the hot afternoon on your deck or in the lagoon, then enjoy the included 60-minute couples massage before sunset. Dinner in the main restaurant. Overnight at the resort.
Day 3Private sandbank picnic
At about 10am your boat leaves for a private sandbank, a strip of white sand in the middle of the ocean, roughly 20 minutes away. The crew set up shade, towels and a picnic lunch with soft drinks, then leave you for two hours of swimming and snorkelling. Back at the resort by mid-afternoon, rest before an optional cooking class or a session at the spa. Dinner tonight in the main restaurant. Overnight at the resort.
Day 4Sunset dolphin cruise and beach dinner
The morning is free for diving, a paddleboard on the lagoon or simply reading in the hammock. In the late afternoon board a traditional dhoni for the sunset dolphin cruise, about 90 minutes, when spinner dolphins often leap beside the boat. Return to a candlelit table on the beach, set apart from the restaurant, with a set honeymoon menu and the sound of the waves. Overnight at the resort.
Day 5Your choice: diving, spa or a day of nothing
Your last full day has no plans. Popular options are a guided dive or snorkel trip to a nearby manta point, a sunrise yoga session on the jetty, or a spa ritual. Many couples book a lunch at the resort's overwater restaurant or a floating breakfast in their villa pool, which we can arrange in advance. Watch the sun go down from your deck before dinner in the main restaurant. Overnight at the resort.
Day 6Seaplane back to Malé and fly home
Enjoy breakfast and a last swim from your villa steps. The resort confirms your seaplane time the evening before, usually two and a half to three hours before your flight. Check-out is at noon, but late check-out can be requested. The seaplane brings you back to Malé, where staff assist you to the departure terminal. The direct flight lands in Dubai about four and a half hours later.

Travellers on this holiday
Married in Hyderabad two weeks before flying out. We are vegetarian and Joanna had told the resort in advance, so the chef made proper dal and fresh roti every evening, which my husband insisted on. I read three books in the overwater hammock and regret nothing.
British couple living in JLT. We were offered a half-board deal that beat everything we had seen online once transfers were added. Sunset dolphin cruise, turtles on the house reef and a candlelit dinner out on the sandbank. We have already asked about going back for our first anniversary.
Our water villa had steps straight down into the lagoon and we watched a reef shark from the deck on day two. Joanna let the resort know it was our honeymoon, so there was a floating breakfast and a cake waiting. Five nights felt like ten, and every transfer ran to the minute.
The island and the villa were beautiful, no complaint there. On arrival the seaplane was swapped for a speedboat because of the weather, a rough seventy minutes for my wife. The difference was refunded, but it took two weeks and three follow-up messages. Fine in the end, just slower than it should have been.
