Musandam dhow cruise from Dibba with snorkelling and lunch on board
11 h · starts 07:00 · 4.7 (3)
Musandam is the Omani peninsula where the Hajar Mountains drop straight into the sea, and the coastline of steep fjords and clear water is one of the most beautiful in the region. Our coach collects you at about 06:30 and drives across the country to Dibba on the east coast, about two and a half hours. The important part is the border: Musandam is in Oman, so every guest, including children, needs a passport, and residents should bring an Emirates ID. Requirements depend on nationality and can change, so we confirm the current rules for your passport when you book and our team handles the paperwork at the crossing.
From the harbour in Dibba we board a traditional wooden dhow with a shaded deck, cushions, life jackets and snorkelling gear. We keep the boat to 30 guests, where many cheaper trips squeeze 60 onto the same size of dhow. The captain cruises into the fjords, along cliffs and past small fishing villages that can only be reached by sea. Dolphins are often seen in the morning, though never guaranteed. The first stop is a sheltered bay for snorkelling over coral and rocks, with fish, turtles if you are lucky and water that is clear most of the year.
Lunch is cooked on board: grilled chicken, a vegetable curry, rice, salads, fruit and bread, with water, soft drinks, tea and coffee all day. After lunch there is a second swim stop at a beach, time to relax on deck, and the slow cruise back to Dibba. We clear the border again at about 15:30 and are back in Dubai by about 17:30, depending on traffic. Non-swimmers can still snorkel with a life jacket. In summer the sea is warm but the deck is hot; the season from October to May is far more comfortable.

Guests on this experience
Beautiful scenery and calm sea. The wait at the border crossing took longer than expected, nearly an hour on a busy Friday, which ate into the morning. Once on the water it was perfect, and the snorkelling stop was the best I have done in the region.
Full day on a dhow in the fjords near Dibba, with dolphins swimming alongside the boat on the way out. Snorkelling in clear water, a lazy lunch on board and banana boat rides for the kids. Saeed handled the border formalities so smoothly we hardly noticed them.
Group of Filipino friends from the same hospital in Sharjah, fourteen of us. Saeed reserved the upper deck for our group, sorted vegetarian lunches for two, and found us the quietest cove for swimming. Dolphins on the way back sealed it.
